Since creating my ‘initial ideas’ tab, I have finalized my ideas, produced pre-production paperwork, shot my film and began the editing/post-production process.
In my initial ideas tab, I was considering two locations (The Astor Theatre in Deal and Birchington Cemetery) – I gained the permission to film in both of these locations and one other (Pluck’s Gutter Cemetery) and took location shots accordingly (see ‘Locations’ tab)
The cinematography and narrative decisions did not change much – Most of the ‘narrative’ took place in the The Astor Theatre, and most of the interlinking/cutaway shots took place in the cemeteries, where a majority of the titles would be inserted in post production.
The decisions were reflected in my pre-production paperwork, particularly in my storyboards which show more clearly the structure of my title sequence (See ‘Storyboards’ and ‘Risk Assessment and Shooting Script’)
Genre
As stated in ‘Initial ideas’, the genre for my title sequence will be Horror. I will hope to make this clear via a number of decisions within Mis En Scene, Editing and sound that will be reminiscent of the genre – this will also help target my audience (see ‘Target Audience’ tab)
Lighting
In the filming of my title sequence I have used mostly ambient lighting, as I was filming outside and felt the lighting to be adequate for the shots – I had decided before that I was going to change the sautration and colours of the sequence within the edit.
Sound
I am currently undergoing the post-production process and I am looking to add a non-diagetic soundtrack; I have searched a number of sites that host copyright free soundtracks and I have found some music with an orchestral theme that I feel would work well in adding to the atmosphere of my title sequence. I will soon select a single piece from the tracks I have found and begin incoprorating it into my edit.
Mis En Scene
Having completed the filming of my title sequence, I have concluded that the Mis En Scene of my title sequence is one of the most effective elements within it. I have captured the particularly gothic and traditional scenery of the cemeteries within my shots, the potential Mis En 9Scene being one of the prime reasons I chose those locations. On my first day of shooting at Birchington Cemetery, the weather was an overcast of fog; the misty atmosphere looked effective within the shots and aided the gothic theme that I am trying to create.
For details on the actual titles of the title sequence, see the ‘Titles’ tab.
I am now editing my title sequence. My main points for action are;
– Complete the final cut of the video
– Select an appropriate soundtrack
– Edit the audio and cut the soundtrack to the video accordingly
– Evaluate and upload
